Want to inject the holiday spirit into the office? Here’s how

The holiday season can be a whirlwind for Property Managers and agency owners. Between juggling end-of-year deadlines and ensuring your clients have a smooth holiday experience, it can be easy for the holiday spirit to get lost in the shuffle. That’s why it’s more important than ever to make an effort to create a festive and fun atmosphere in the office. Taking the time to cultivate some holiday cheer in your office can be a fantastic way to boost morale, thank your team for their hard work and set the stage for a successful new year. Celebrating Christmas festivities in the office, not only boosts company morale, it also enhances team building and improves retention and stress reduction.

Here are a few tips to help you inject some holiday cheer into your workplace:

1. Decorate!

Nothing says “holiday spirit” like a well-decorated office. When it comes to decorating the office for the holidays, there are a few things to keep in mind:

Affordable holiday cheer: Don’t let a tight budget dampen your holiday spirit! Transform your space into a festive wonderland with affordable and easy-to-set-up decorations. From twinkling string lights to DIY garlands, there are endless possibilities to create a magical atmosphere. Get creative with recycled materials or opt for budget-friendly store-bought decorations.

Easy setup, maximum impact: No one wants to spend hours setting up decorations. Choose decorations that are easy to assemble and take down. Adhesive hooks are a great way to hang decorations on walls and windows without damaging your surfaces.

A festive theme for everyone: Choose a theme that will get everyone in the holiday spirit. A festive theme can bring everyone together and create a joyful holiday experience. Whether you prefer a classic Christmas theme, a winter wonderland or a more general holiday theme, there are endless possibilities to inspire your decorations.

2. Foster healthy competition

A little healthy competition can be a great way to get everyone in the holiday spirit. Here are a few ideas:

Deck the desk contest: Get creative and have some fun! Have employees decorate their desks with festive flair and enter the deck the desk contest. With the most festive and imaginative desk to win!

Funniest Santa photo contest: Don your Santa hat and strike a pose! Have employees snap a silly selfie and enter the funniest Santa photo contest. With the silliest and most creative photo to be crowned the winner.

Pet dress-up contest: Have employees dress up their furry friends in their holiday best and join the pet dress-up contest. With the most adorable and creative pet costume taking home the prize.

3. Get charitable!

The holidays are a time for giving back to the community. Here are a few ways to get your team involved in charitable activities:

Toy drive/collection: Let’s bring joy to a child’s holiday! Donate new, unwrapped toys to the toy drive and help make a difference.

Soup kitchen volunteering: Volunteer at a local soup kitchen or food bank. Lend a hand to those in need and spread some holiday cheer.

Adopt a family: Make a family’s holiday brighter by adopting a family in need. Provide them with gifts and necessities to create lasting memories.

By getting involved in charitable activities, you can help your team feel good about giving back to the community and spread some holiday cheer.

4. Celebrate the team’s accomplishments

The holidays are a great time to celebrate your team’s accomplishments. Here are a few ways to do that:

Have a festive party: Let’s celebrate another successful year! Throw a holiday party to celebrate your team’s hard work and accomplishments; unwind, enjoy good food and great company.

Give out bonuses or gifts: As a token of appreciation for the team’s hard work, get excited to announce special bonuses and gifts for the team.

Recognise individual achievements: Recognise the incredible achievements of team members. Thank them for their contributions, which have made a significant impact, and let them know you’re grateful for their hard work.

By celebrating your team’s accomplishments, you can show them how much you appreciate their hard work and dedication.

5. Designate a CVO, Chief Vibes Officer

If you want to ensure that your office is filled with holiday cheer, consider designating a CVO (Chief Vibes Officer). This person will be responsible for planning and organising all of the holiday festivities. The ideal CVO is someone who is passionate about the holidays and has a knack for creating a fun and festive atmosphere. They should also be able to work well with others and get everyone involved in the festivities.

6. Make it a point to be inclusive

When planning your holiday festivities, it’s important to be mindful of everyone’s beliefs and traditions. Not everyone celebrates Christmas, so be sure to include activities and decorations that include all holidays and cultures. Incorporate activities that honour traditions like Hanukkah and Ramadan. For Hanukkah, consider organising a menorah lighting ceremony or a dreidel-spinning contest. For Ramadan, you might host an Iftar dinner or a cultural exchange event. You can create a more inclusive and respectful workplace by acknowledging and celebrating these diverse holidays.

You can also make it a point to avoid using religious language or imagery in your decorations and activities. This will help ensure that everyone feels comfortable and included in the festivities.

7. Surprise the team with a half-day

What better way to spread holiday cheer than by giving your team the gift of time? Surprise them with a half day off so they can get a head start on their holiday shopping, spend time with loved ones or relax and recharge. This is a great way to show your appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

8. Organise a Christmas cinema night

Many places have outdoor Christmas/Moonlight cinemas during the holiday season. This is a great way to get the team out of the office and enjoy a festive activity together. You can even bring blankets and snacks to make it extra cosy.

9. Secret Santa… with a twist

Instead of exchanging gifts, play Secret Santa with a twist. Have each person write a note of recognition for their designated person, acknowledging their efforts and contributions over the past year. This is a thoughtful way to show appreciation and spread holiday cheer.

10. It’s the feasting season

The holidays are a time for feasting and indulging. Leave snacks and festive treats out for your team to enjoy. This is a small gesture that can go a long way in spreading festive cheer.

As we wrap up this holiday season, let’s remember the true spirit of giving and gratitude. By incorporating these fun and meaningful activities into the workplace, you can foster a stronger team bond and create lasting memories. Let’s continue to spread joy and make a positive impact in the workplace. Happy Holidays!
